I'm not sure that's a fair criticism.  While it's true innocent people
have died, and are dying, they were already dying due to the existing
leadership and its henchmen.

Nobody can guarantee that in 10 years the number of innocent dead will
be less than if the US hadn't invaded.  In theory, however, the world
is always better off when you remove a dictator.

But this is dangerous game ...

Many people think Iraq was a bulwark for Iran - Iran's recent nuclear
challenges add credibility to that assertion.  Should Iran take the
opportunity of a weakened America to pursue WMD and/or destabilize
Iraq, the invasion could indeed cause more innocent death than
otherwise.

Between now and then, though, the Iraqis have options; something they
didn't have under Mr. Hussein.
