That one hour wouldn't have helped here.

The average commute to work for Americans now-a-days is 32 minutes each way. And we 
have to vote where we live (not where we work).
My wait was 1 hour 45 minutes. Some people waited more that 9 hours to vote (although 
many left before then)

Ah, to be a small, Caribbean country...

We have the most public holidays I think of any country.
And even here, we don't have a day off for Elections. 
Employers are simply mandated that they must provide at least one hour free for 
employees to vote.
