Jiffy pop built their disposable 'device' based on what was actually in use.
There was one which was two baskets connected by a hinge. Each basket had a
rod. Once the corn was added to one basket, it was hinged close and then put
over a fire. It popped up  and when done, it was unhinged into a bowl.
