I thought the lesson wasn't to back up the French - Dien Bien Phu.

OK, really the biggest lesson our political leadership should have
learned was if you make a mess, stay the course to clean it up.

Wasn't the nation's lesson from Vietnam that going to war on a lie
(Gulf of Tonkin) will never turn out good?

So hasn't America shown its ignorance by believing the whole WMD
thing?  Thus taking us to war on a lie again?
