Definitely helps. As did the first link (Michael's link threw a 404).

Is this because it is assumed your "work" is done, and it is now your son's job
to carry on?

Our family has a similar feeling of generational shift, but the handoff is more
in the late teens than at birth. To date I have failed (38 years old and no son
to carry the Johnson name).

Thanks for the info,
Jerry

Judith is correct. Abu whatever is an honor term, you (as a man) generally
take the name of your first born son. Your wife, should you have one, becomes
"Um". Soooo, my name is Marwan. My first born son is Khaled. As of June 16, I
am Abu Khaled, in Arabic circles. My wife Kara is now Um Khaled.
