I don't think it should come with better headphones. Most people have better headphones already - so why force every customer to pay more for something when they're not going to use it? As for a protective case, I also am glad it didn't cost me more money and include a mandatory case, as I decline to use a case. Also, this way, people can get whatever type of case they want. Are you going to use it for running? Get an armband case. Are you going to be the guy who clips the ipod on your belt? Get one that supports that. Do you need your ipod case to match your bright pink hair? Okay enough of that.
I purchased a 40gig (non-mini, obviously) ipod a few weeks ago. It is okay - but yea just okay. I've had it lock up on me probably three times, with the only solution being letting the battery die and then charging from scratch. After being jealous of mine, the girlfriend had to get herself a mini this past weekend. I like everything about the mini a lot, except the 3.7g of mp3 storage. That just isn't enough for me.
