Not at all - it was purely a purchase of pure hate and loathing.

I needed something, needed it quick, needed it now and Best Buy was closest.
I had been up for 30 hours, wasn't happy with life because I was going to
have wipe my system drive and needed someplace to store all my stuff...
quickly.  Either that or (at the time at least) slit my wrists with a
back-plane cover.

(In any case at the time 200 Gig drives were not $99 and Firewire/USB2
enclosures weren't all that common.  I personally don't use the associated
software at all.)

It IS a nice unit - clean lines, decent cooling without being obnoxious, and
does exactly what it's supposed to do.  But it's definitely not the cheap
way to go.  ;^)

Given that you can get firewire drive enclosures for less than $75,
and 200 gig HD's for $99, then why go for a Maxstor external? Is the
associated software that good?
