1. What extra mile?
2. Xeon on the desktop just to run Office?
3. AMD is cheaper.

I use both, but I buy them based on cost/benefit at the time of
purchase as well as factors other than raw speed, like power and
thermal characteristics, integrated heat spreader, battery consumption
in laptops, corporate designated vendor, etc.
