I don't think you're crazy. And I do think it boils down to worldview. I think there are many that fear drives to wish to live in a "monoverse" where "them" is simply the inverse of "us" and where they feel protected from the need to experience otherness and uncertainty. And the culture of war(mongering) is very deeply entrenched and seductive. The country is still wrapped up in its post-911 pain and unable to see how serious are the risks that adventurism poses internationally. I believe that we have reached a time where a culture of peace that has never before existed must be built if we are to survive as a planet. I also believe that it will be built when its necessity becomes apparent to the majority. Unfortunately, that time is not yet here, although there are many who are working to make it so.
