Mike,

Let me just preface my response by telling you that I am pretty anal
when it comes to layout and design aspects of a site/application. I find
myself spending the same, if not more, time on the layout and design
than the actual code! That being said, my responses might be a little
picky or seemingly negative but please take nothing personal as it is
just me giving the requested feedback :-)

I don't know what it is about the header that troubles me but the
lightning bolt with the atomic spin just doesn't seem to fit. Maybe it
is too big? I do like the Fusion Authority lettering though (check the
alignment of the letters, the bottoms don't line up). The cfwebtools
banner competes for attention with the Fusion Authority text of the page
which forces me to just move on to the next "section". The sign-in, rss,
and search links would look better right justified instead of slightly
staggered to the left. The right blue column needs to be cut-off instead
of covering the top right corner (it just seems out of place since the
left column and the middle column don't contain the blue background.

Ok, I am not a fan of the purple background on the left nav area as you
do not carry that color into any other place on the site so it kind of
sticks out. Maybe an off-white or pale gray?

The ads on the right would be better as vibrant, eye-catching images.
The text just competes with the main content area (middle) which is
where my focus should stay. I am not sure how much emphasis you intended
with the ad space so maybe text is more suitable.

The main content area... Too busy. Is there any kind of hierarchy to the
articles? Big articles? Small articles? I can see where the larger
articles would benefit from a quick description, but all the articles
having a description makes the page look bloated. How about some hover
text on the title?... Or how about an icon next to the title that will
give a quick blurb when clicked then the blurb could become the link
into the article? All the titles could line up and be put into columns
with "subject headers" maybe?

Finally, the footer. I would have the footer content span the entire
page; floating below all the nav, ad, and content columns. I would also
shrink the text on the copyright statement as it is not more important
than the footer links, which the user would be more interested in
anyway.

Ok, that's all :-) I hope I did not offend you.. I am just offering my
anal critique.

Mike
