This is exactly what I need.
The header image might be to large which is throwing you. I'll shrink it
some. Are you sure the FA letters don't line up on bottom? They should,
though the image is aligned to the top which may look strange.
When you say the banner competes for attention from the text, which text do
you refer to?
The rss et. al. links are right aligned. What browser are you using and
where does it show on yours?
I'll look into removing the top of the right section. I had put it there to
'force' the RSS et. al. links over some and not have them 100% flush with
the right. I think I'm going to take the light blue from the left and make
it go all the way to the top which may balance it some.
The left nav color will be used for header bars within the pages.
If/when I get non-google ads then I'll have images in the side but until
then it'll be the text. I have the ads in the dark purple to separate them
from the content.
The content area (showing the front of FA at the moment) will have headers
put on the sections. They are set up like that to give a front page of a
newspaper effect. Not perfect. :(
I have the footer set up that way so the left (light blue) will have a TMM
logo or the like and the right will have a supporter ad/link. I will shrink
the copyright though. I put that in as an afterthought taking away the image
that was there.
I do appreciate the anal attention to detail as I never trust myself when it
comes to layout. Thanks again.

(and yes, I'm going to get the 100 line message for this post. I'm changing
it to 150 lines in the new release)
