We saw the same thing at the beginning of any technology that moves from hard
to easy. (fonts in the mid-80's, the <blink> tag, flash intros)

I loved VRML (and things like VR Basic before it). My best work in VRML was a
3d tournament chart for wrestling tournaments and a VR game about
classification of underwater invertebrates.

We are surely going to see a lot of bad usage, but from that will emerge a few
gems.

I do hope that:
a) we don't lose the command prompt. I think Apple finally learned this lesson.
b) we can TURN IT OFF.

File and folder management, peripherals and networking are areas that can
REALLY use some new conceptual models for users.

As a good example of 3d being used well, did anyone see the Google 60 Minutes
story on Sunday? They had a 3d map of earth showing usage and languages for
their user pop. Awesome!

We need to get Tufte to write a good book on 3d infographics.

I was actually pretty heavily in VRML years ago - this isn't all that much
different (but much more capable).
