There were some issues when he would correct his teachers from time to time, and some general issues with respecting authority when he was younger, but that was expected. Young prodigies (5 - 14) have a special set of issues for parents to deal with, and if you don't fully resolve those issues early on, you've lost them forever to a permanent state of arrogance. We all worked through those issues together as a family as he grew up, and he took the bull by the horns and grew into a great guy with a great social life and a lot of friends. Thank God (and I have). Most of the working through part was emphasizing the consequences of actions and attitudes in the real world -- the one that doesn't follow logical rules or produce behavior expected by some naive textbook formulation. Explaning how everything from who gets promoted and who gets fired to choosing the vendors for your data center equipment is entirely emotional and has little or nothing to do with logic, except where it can be used to support an emotional decision. Then we mixed in personal politics and private agendas, extreme power wielded by seemingly meaningless people who don't even fit on an organizational chart, and the real reasons why people do what they do, and bit by bit he began to understand The Big Picture.
