I don't understand that, High School was fun, maybe I'm from fantasy land, but in general people got along fine.
The name calling was for the most part not personal, in that the names weren't intended to hurt the person, but usually more of a generic insult 'cause we weren't witty enough to think of something smart. Hence Dick Head. I think when you grow up, different words are given different weights, and sometimes when you deal with that in a way to ensure that the words don't carry a negative weight to begin with, people won't use them. If growing up I was taught that the word 'Fag' had a specific derogatory meaning, then I probably would have used it. However it was ignored, it became a useless word, that seemed to be the case with most of the people I grew up with, some words just didn't have any meaning, so we didn't use them as insults. We were pretty sure taking a swear word, and adding some noun to the end of it was an insult, so that is really all we did. > -----Original Message----- > From: Raymond Camden [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Monday, January 24, 2005 3:42 PM > To: CF-Community > Subject: Re: No Name calling week... > > One thing that really bothers me about bullies/name calling and > schools.... if one of the purpose of schools is to prepare kids for > their adult life - why is that so many schools ignore name calling and > verbal abuse?
