I had a real problem with a virus/spyware a couple of months ago, and the IT guy we hired to figure out the problem pointed me to these two sites:
http://www.pandasoftware.com use the "activescan" link at the left-bottom of the page. FREE, and will get stuff that others miss. http://housecall.antivirus.com FREE also - use the "scan now! it's free!" link on the page. These removed almost 200 threats from my computer here - and we use Norton religiously. Beware, though, if you have a lot of files, this takes a LONG time. But worth it. It fixed me right up!
