phenylketonuria is scientific fact and has been since I took genetics back in the dark ages. So when They say
"If you are one in ten thousand people who are PKU or carry the PKU gene, Phenylalanine can cause irreversible brain damage and death" that's true. Here's a journal article chosen at random from google scholar: http://adc.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/abstract/archdischild;65/5/472 The thing is, if you had it you would know you had it since they routinely test all newborns born in the Unites States and maybe elsewhere too for all I know. I am not sure about the chemical composition of aspartame. In my quick browse through Google scholar I did see references to it becoming formaldehyde in the body (yuk) and studies that seemed to show that drinks with aspartame vs drinks with high fructose corn syrup will help you lose weight. The study I found on ADD showed a negative correlation. http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/abstract/86/1/75 So without studying it a great deal I would say that this woman is leaping to a conclusion that may not be founded.
