"Apparent lack of commitment?" Please. The divorce rate in the US stands at about 50%. Since gay people don't get counted in that statistic I'd say that's fairly damning commentary on the "commitment" capabilities of straight people. FWIW, _people_ screw around, not specifically _gay_ or _straight_ people, just _people_ in general. > I personally think that giving them a civil union that > has the same responsibilities and difficulty of divorce is good. Great, 'cause "difficulty of divorce" has worked out so well with straight marriage? > It would impose a commitment that other can see. Are you saying that if gay people want to get married (or civilly united, or whatever) they should have a more difficult time getting un-married, so that they can be taught the meaning of commitment? I know quite a few gay couples, male and female. The stick-together ratio for those couples is much higher in my experince than married/long-term straight couples I have known. I also know quite a few single gay people. (Hey, one of my hobbies is theatre, whatcha gonna do?) They date. So do the straight single people I know. Some gay long-term relationships break up. But, and this may come as a shock to you, so do straight marriages and long-term relationships. > I do think that homosexual sex is wrong, but the fact that people are > attracted to the same sex and wish to spend their lives together is not > wrong. So _you_ can be attracted to someone (of the opposite sex) and then feel free to take that attraction to the next level (sex), but those that are attracted to the same gender can be, that's fine; as long as they don't try to have sex?
