You could say the same about football.  All those drunken idiots at the 
stadium and at bars on Sundays get pretty downright annoying too.  In fact, 
some would argue that the average drunken football fan acts more obnoxious 
and childish than the average drunken NASCAR fan.

The problem is the stereotype associated with the NASCAR fan hasn't been 
shed - yet.  Football is an "accepted" US sport, so you never hear it about 
them.
