Surely there are laws that govern behaviour in these situations? Geneva
convention and all that. The problem is, The Northern Alliance are hardly a
well trained professional army. Thats not to say they aren't good fighters,
just that they probably don't have the discipline of say, the british army,
so any order from the 'top' to only capture the enemy, but not kill them
will probably go unheeded. Thats the nature of the beast I'm afraid. They
seem to be taking particular pleasure in killing the Pakistani Taliban
volunteers.

Yeah. They need to be very careful as they set up their new government. And
while I understand the desire for revenge, I wish that they didn't feel the
need to kill the taliban soldiers and mutilate their bodies. Why not drive
them out or jail them, depending upon their previous actions, and let the
culprits deal with their own guilty consciences?

This is the problem -- there's now a vacuum, and the senseless tribal
fighting may start yet again. I was hoping this would not happen.
