1.) By telling the truth on why we're going to war - that wasn't done.
Even Mr. Bush gave one reason in a nationally televised speech and
then another to Mr. Woodward during an in depth interview for his
book. Telling the truth allows people to properly calculate value
which is different and more important than price.

2.) By engaging the international community to help with the invasion
rather than alienating them. In Nov 2002 Mr. Powell had convinced the
UN to back US initiatives - in February all UN support was withdrawn
along with much of global support. (Let's skip the "coalition"
argument. The US was shouldered over 90% of the burden - period).

3.) By allowing any of those willing to help to take part in rebuilding Iraq.

4.) By not diverting troops and money from Afghanistan that were
pursuing OBL to Iraq.

5.) By building a special coalition of Arab countries to help rebuild
Iraq and thus avoid insurgent recruiting driven by anti-American
sentiment.

Those are just a few off of the top of my head :)
