Yeah, and my speculation would be that even if you could, at some
damage point the original encoding that holds memories and personality
is gone.  That is, to bring back Terri you'd have to be able to
restore not only the cells but also the "state" or the programming
that existed before the damage.

Obviously there's a bio-electrical mechanism that stores and processes
this data so the question is at what point is the data destroyed
beyond restoration?

Today we can't even restore cells which would mean the first question
for Ms. Schiavo  is can the body regenerate those cells itself or
might there be some therapy that could do it in the future?

Either way there's almost a 100% probability that she's gone forever
since even if that happened she'd need the encoding  back too.
