So, I'm in this contract. A six month project bid. Based on the due
dates, and the "Five days to address functionality that does not meet
specs" the project should have been done by the end of the third month,
even though my compensation is spread out over 6. I tacked on a little
additional support in each month (5 hours).

Here it is 8 weeks after I submitted the code that provides the
functionality, we are still operating in the "build and fix" mode of
software development. To be nice, I even give him a five business day
notice before I go back on the clock. Remember he only had five days to
review the information in the first place. The client agrees that I have
gone over and above. We agree upon a discounted hourly rate for further work.

12 weeks after I submitted the code that provides the functionality, he
balks at the invoice and is completely shocked that I'm trying to charge
him more than we originally agreed upon. He refuses to pay most of the
over the above amount. I did have his vocal approval on additional
charges. I did work without having my bases covered in writing. I got
screwed, that's the nature of the game. It's a costly lesson to learn.

14 weeks after I submitted the code, he is still changing
functionality. He is complaining that I'm refusing to do any more work
beyond the hours I was contractually obligated to provide without a new
contract. He did find one thing that was not completed to spec and I
offered to do that at a discounted rate

You may all smile and nod. Isn't consulting fun? My other major client
( a middle man) is 6 months behind in paying me, refuses to give me a
payment schedule as to when they will be able to pay me (Since they are at
the mercy of their client). They have started to complain I am being
unresponsive to their emails. I told them flat out that they take low
priority due to the outstanding balance. I'm about to terminate that
contract, but I don't want to leave the project undone, because I'm sure
they'll use that as an excuse not to pay me anything.

Anyone wanna hire a CF Author, starting in January? Osborne is actually
the only client I don't have any problems with. ( do they count as a client?)
