It's relevant. I'd check the RAM since it's XP. Theoretically a recent
computer should have enough RAM for XP but you never know. Also check
for chip speed, just for my information. Nothing recent should be
taking ten minutes to open email.

If you have used three spyware scanners that probably isn't the issue.
For viruses try housecall.antivirus.com in case you have something new
and nasty.

If you are using it plugged in the battery is probably not the issue.
My laptop stays plugged in as battery is short.

If other elements of the network are not this slow the netowrk is not
the issue. Just brainstorming here, sometimes older OSes used to
install unneeded protocols like IPX/SPX and NETBEUI... it's worth
looking in Control Panel ->Network to see if you perhaps don't have
five copies of tcp/ip running or some such foolishness.

Performance monitor looks ok? Are you getting a lot of disk thrashing
maybe? Has someone played with the swap file? Something else that's
worth checking.

I'll ahem in the famous tech support term check some resources and get
back to you.

Dana
