That would have killed her because she would have choked to death. She had no ability to swallow except for handling of saliva, which is a brainstem response, not a cortical response.
It was not a despicable decision as you imply. She could not be hand fed period. Not unless you wanted to kill the person. Suffocation is still considered at the very least manslaughter.
