he hates Kerry because of what he did/said about Vietnam. He feels he betrayed his comrades. He even has more of a loathing for Jane Fonda. Isn't she a treat?

The enlisted are all generally working class. They're not going to identify with a guy who sails and attends country clubs; they'll identify with a guy who owns a ranch and wears jeans. They're not going to understand a guy who volunteered for combat when he didn't have to - they'll identify with a guy who used his connections to get a cushy stateside post because that's what they would've done. Mr. Kerry's mistake was thinking that just because he attended the dance he'd be elected king. He never recovered from the swift boat debacle which cost him the swing vote. Chasing the youth vote was the nail in the coffin.
