I agree with you Adam.
 About the time shortandlacking horn is actually released (say 5 yrs) they will 
have changed everything back up.
 Not like that isn't their history, it would be nice if they would put some of 
the effort they put into .net into making a decent desktop. Which I think they 
are going to have to do as these other companies start chiseling at there 
monopoly of the desktop.

Never thought people would get so up in arms about my off the cuff
comment, it was not really serious :) But I do think .NET will be
replaced by some new concept within 5 years, not to say it will be
completely different than .NET. Anyway I do still stand strong that if
someone is given a choice to initially learn Java or .NET java is the
better choice. The biggest hurdle is figuring out OOP after thats its
just syntax and naming conventions (yes I know there are some things
in .NET that java does not support like multiple inheretence but it
would not require a heap of effort to learn)... the reason I say Java
over .NET is its portability between systems.
