The only thing I have to add is that these are all essentially hybrid v 1.0
vehicles. I wanted to buy the Ford Escape hybrid, but I ended up buying the
standard one because Ford was two years late getting to market. My guess is
that engineering problems caused the delay.

I fully expect to see them improve these vehicles over the next five to ten
years. Skyrocketing fuel costs are going to push people to buy more
fueld-efficient cars, and that's what will drive the market, and the R & D
dollars. SUV sales are already falling. Expect huge drops in sales of Hummers,
Tahoes, Suburbans, and other giant gas-guzzlers on the market.

Ultimately, hybrids are a transitional technology- meant to leverage the
existing gasoline infrastructure while the industry figures out a way forward-
probably with gas-powered fuel cells as the next step. They still use gas, but
they don't burn it, so there are no emissions except water. Pretty cool,
although I wonder what all that extra water going into the atmosphere will do
to the climate.
