Thanks for the link... I also like that narrated slideshow which is available on the second page. The number of categories may seem high, but it's building off a long existing practice of separating discards. Streetposts in Tokyo neighborhoods have placards showing which types of discards are picked up on which days. I was re-reading a 20-year-old "Now You Live In Japan" type of book recently, and even then some of the top advice for getting along with your neighbors was to carefully study the pickup schedule and package discards appropriately. It's already ingrained. One other angle about recycling there is that the number of functioning appliances and other goods left on the street is quite high. In San Francisco you don't know if a curbside TV will get its screen smashed in for kicks, but the pickup scheduling in Japan seems to help more electronics successfully reach second homes. jd -- John Dowdell .
