The Penn and Teller Bullshit episode didn't call it a "farce" but they did point out several things: 1) We're not really "running out" of landfill space as some would have you believe. 2) It's actually quite expensive to recycle and most of the goods produced are inferior and actually cost more but due to subsidies are often priced less. 3) People often blindly accept the recycling argument without doing research on it. (They actually did a prank where they told several people in a town that they'd now have 12 different categories of recycling). Whether you agree or not, they do make some valid points.
