On that you have my full agreement.  Our K-12 education system sucks,
no doubt.  I believe I said "higher education" though, meaning
college.

But just to be clear I think our public university system mostly sucks
too with a few exceptions such as Cal, UPenn, UMich, etc.  Where the
US is really strong is with top professional universities meaning
graduate school for medicine, law, business, etc.

In all of those fields and more, 98% of the top universities in the
world are in the US.

What that means, at least for the time being, is that any kid looking
to jump economic classes can do it by attending one of the world's top
universities which, if you live in the US, gives you an advantage:
there's one close by.

Coincidentally (or not really) those kids will also be in the wave of
workers ready to profit from globalism.  So my point to Robert is,
it's not what or how much you study it's where and what you do with
it.  But I agree with him: there's no guarantees.
