G, I believe you are arguing that a company is allowed to charge as much as it wants for a product. I, and most of us probably agree, if they charge that price to everyone.
I think the dishonest business practice here is that they advertise, and charge price A until one comes back and then they give you the preferred price B. This may not be illegal, if it was I would assume it would be challenged. But it does not give me, the customer, a good feeling. So I take my business elsewhere. So I agree with you that they are "allowed" to do this.
