Tim,

I considered telling you I thought of you yeasterday, but thought that
might be corny. And besides, you didn't die. But you were gone a long
time and yes.. you gave some things up and you know what? I appreciate
the fact that you went. If that helps at all.

I do hear a lot of anger in your vent, but where better to rant?

I'd like to second the suggestion about therapists -- quite a few
might do it pro bono as a way to support the troops. I imagine that a
lot of people feel helpless on the subject and would be willing to do
anything they could. So don't feel shy about making phone calls, or
asking your son's provider for a referral. If anything he may be
relieved; a lot of times families laber one member as the "sick" one
and it is a sign af your basic good sense that you are not doing this
to your son.

But as a longtime former resident of DC I'd also like to mention that
there is a lot in Washington to hate. I stuck it out there for ages
and you know what? The moment I left it was like dropping a weight of
smog and traffic and hypocrisy and hatefulness. Sure, I miss the
magnolias and the cherry blossoms and the view from South Mountain at
times, but I have only to murmur 495 or Benning Road a few times and
the feeling passes. If you're going to do a job search, may I suggest
looking nationwide. Los Alamos is beautiful, for instance, and you
would have the clearances... and there is wilderness here where nobody
cares what you are wearing. Hell, I think there are very few places in
the state where people care what you are wearing...
