He said himself the reason he went to the press was because Nixon passed him over for the top job and appointed an outsider. Never mentioned remorse. http://www.startribune.com/stories/587/5435318.html WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In a strange footnote to history, Richard M. Nixon unwittingly testified on behalf of Deep Throat in a federal court trial in October 1980 -- six years after he was forced to resign as president because of the Watergate scandal. W. Mark Felt, identified Tuesday as Deep Throat, was the FBI's second-ranking official at the time of the 1972 break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate. Felt and Edward Miller, formerly head of the FBI's domestic intelligence division, were charged with authorizing government agents in 1972 and 1973 to break into homes without warrants in search of anti-Vietnam War bombing suspects from the radical Weather Underground organization. Nixon, then a private citizen, testified that he believed that at the time the FBI director and his deputies had direct authorization from the president to order break-ins in the interest of national security. Felt was subsequently convicted and fined $5,000. Five months later, President Ronald Reagan pardoned him on the grounds that he had "acted on high principle" to bring an end to the terrorism threatening the nation. > As for the everyone does it, I thought that was your line? You trot > out alleged Clinton misdeeds everytime Bush is criticized. > I mention Clintons misdeeds when they're much worse than what Bush is accused of. The irony is when Clinton did it everyone said "So what everyone does it". Now if they think Bush did something half as bad it's much worse. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Discover CFTicket - The leading ColdFusion Help Desk and Trouble Ticket application http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=48 Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:159461 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
