One possibly minor point is that the pill isn't a form of Marijuana but rather an attempt at recreating its "active ingredients". As such it's patentable and much, much more expensive. Smoking is not, in and of itself, "bad" - the negative effects of cigarettes come from the ingredients used (tar and other chemicals) and it's over use (several dozen cigarettes per day). Marijuana smoked for medical purposes is generally taken once or twice a day and is generally a cleaner smoke. In any case the ailments it would be prescribed for are much, much worse than the effects of such judicious smoking. It's like giving morphine to a dying patient: you don't worry about them becoming addicted.
