Historically conservatives believed that local government knew best
and that given the flexibility and authority it could accomplish
whatever was needed on a case-by-case basis.

What's changed is that as Republicans have come to federal power
they've become corrupt and are doing what all corrupt leaders do -
consolidate power and authority to a small centralized cadre.

They intend to use this central authority to stomp on local liberties
to "protect" us from our stupid selves.  After all, certainly Mr. Bush
and Mr. Small know better how to run our families than we do.  We need
their "help".  Because they're smart and we're dumb.  Duh.
