That about apes still around is crud. It doesn't invalidate evolution.
We didn't evolve from apes - apes and humans evolved from a common
ancestor about 3 to 6 million years ago. Therefore of course there's
going to be apes.

Its a matter of ignorance about evolution - and a profound ignorance
because of the POS that is commonly taught as evolution in schools.
