I beleive the main by product is Helium and extra neutrons.  The neutrons often 
get caught in the reaction container causing it to become radioactive after a 
time...  Otherwise, much cleaner than fission reactors...

Yeah, I wondered that too. They fuse deuterium which would produce
what? And would it be radioactive? As Jochem implied, they need
water for cooling and seawater for deuterium.
