I think that is what Ian was getting at....they won't be home all day to interact with the dog, so it would lose the pack mentality. Whether it's people or other dogs (or cats in some instances), dogs still have a pack instinct. Most good trainers will build off this fact, establishing you as the superior "Alpha" dog.
