Okay, war as defined by an actual congressionally declared act of war...  we
have had no battles on national soil... including 9/11

However, this "War on Terror" is being referred to as a war.  Using that
definition of war, OKC and the previous WTC bombings and 9/11 happened and
count in my eyes.

Oh, being civilized and having wars with casualties are mutually exclusive
concepts.  A civilized country once took over most of Europe and is now
remembered as a great (or evil) empire... that would be the Romans.  For
their time, they were extremely civilized.  The Egyptians too waged war on
other countries, took over lands and enslaved whole peoples, and they were a
civilized nation for their time.

The difference is that then they used swords and shields and today we use
GPS guided bombs.  We have real-time reporting inches from the battlefields,
they had to wait for runners, travelers, poets or conquerors to return with
news of their battles.

We just have better toys.
