I've heard about that... I'm guardedly excited. ;^) Burroughs wasn't a tremendously innovative writer - point of fact most of his stories follow the same plot. He was a pulp writer, an archetypical writer: people read the books one after the other after the other to see heroes triumph over the strange and the weird. It doesn't really matter that they nearly always do it in the same way... rescuing the same woman from a foe who was nearly a copy of the last foe. I hope the film honors this and doesn't try to "update" or "darken" things. "Sky Captain" was good in that sense: it maintained those classic sensibilities.
