I dunno. I don't think Sam admits it. Other comments inline.

I'm an agnostic on this. It seems as though tax cuts were just part of the
credo, that he had to do it, and I don't know whether he even cared about
the economy as long as his buddies got a break. I am not sure that the
alleged economic benefit of a tax cut has ever really been documented, but I
suppose it is possible as I look at Canada and Britain and say well yeah,
too many taxes are definitely not the way to go...

There's a reason for that. It is conducted behind ferociously protected
closed doors. The Sierra Club is *still* suing to know who was on the Energy
panel Cheney chaired and the administration is *still* fighting it, four
years later. As if we didn't know that there were boind to be oil people in
this administration. But I'll tell you one thing -- as seen from here, it
can definitely but summed up as "screw wilderness, screw the water supply,
drill for oil." They are going to lease out one of the most beautiful places
in New Mexico -- Valle Caldera -- for oil. And the recently passed bill
totally ran roughshod over New Mexico's concern about the water supply with
respect to Otero Mesa.

> Medicare... naw, costs a bunch, doesn't fix the problem
Sure you remember it. The prescription drug card that will actually
*increase* some seniors' costs, and gain the drug companies a few billion.

>Does his partial privatization idea fix the problem? No. But it's still a
good idea.
Maybe. Short term it would definitely cost a bunch. And I don't think it
would solve the problem. I think Social Security needs to be seen for what
it always should have been, a safety net. And those that can should have
IRAs and Keoughs. No need to drag the government into approving people's
retirement planning.
