Well, there is legitimacy to that. Of course number 1 is making sure
there's a system in place to care for the affected.

For those of us not directly involved in that effort, however, we can
take steps to PREVENT this kind of tragedy from happening again. The
fact is, this disaster revealed some ugly truths:

1.) There really are 2 Americas, for whatever reason.

2.) Government (local, state, federal) failed both systemically and
structurally to protect it's citizens.

3.) Our elected officials, probably for decades, have been failing to
competently govern. That's a problem both with them for failing, and
us with electing them.

This is not a partisan issue, it's a voter issue: we are simply not
electing leaders, they are mere placeholders, and it includes both
Democrats and Republicans.

Is Katrina 100% Mr. Bush's fault? Of course not. But it did reveal
serious problems that he, his party, and the Democrats are not capable
of fixing and maybe are compounding.

The answer is to get closely involved with the next election cycle and
elect leaders rather than placeholders.

Who's ultimately responsible for the slow response? Voters. Us.
C'est moi. J'accuse!
