The film they watched referenced the classic behavioral psychology of Skinner, but the whole Dharma project reminded me of the work of artist Teching Hsieh who explored the concepts of time and people's relationship to it, the people around them, and their own selves..
Teching Hsieh did various artistic life studies which each lasted one year. His first piece is known as "Cage" or "Cell" where he constructed a small jail cell and lived in it for the entire year. No reading, writing, talking, tv, radio, etc. In his second piece he put an employee time clock in his room and had to punch it ever hour on the hour. He could go anywhere in the interim but had to be back to personally punch that timeclock on the hour. In another he tied himself to another person by an 8-foot length of rope.
