One of the major complaints about Ms. Meirs is that she hasn't shown a
competency in negotiating constitutional issues which are about
rights, not morals.

Let's take prostitution for example.  I would argue that I have a
right to enter into a contact with another willing party for darn near
anything and the federal government shouldn't have squat to say about
it.

A religious opinion, however, would be that prostitution wrong and so
the gov't shouldn't allow it.  I say that violates my rights.

If a justice is making a ruling based on religion or faith rather than
rights, then we're in serious trouble.  Thus it's bad judgement for
Mr. Bush to invoke this message.

Unless you're trying to placate the fundies that put you in office by
fooling fiscal conservatives.  Then it's political judgement.  The
absolute worst kind.
