The battery is only warranted for 10 years? It's an integral part of the powertrain... what would it cost un warranted to replace it?

You don't get the gas mileage that the mfg's assert on ANY car. The posted mileage is an EPA "Ideal" formula that all mfg's use. I'm getting between 47 and 49 MPG a tank real world on my Prius. It's working for me. >>I NEVER would buy a first-year model, too many bugs and recalls, etc Toyota has been making the Prius for nearly ten years. Now many of the other models that are appearing are the new toys on the block. ""The cost of maintenance and the lack of expertise of the techs working on them. (my dad is a mechanic, and he has some horror stories of what these very green "trained tech" hacks can do to a car). The gas engine is a very standard gas engine. I would definitely not let a green tech work on the electric and battery system. My 20,000 mile oil change and tire rotation cost me a whopping $19.99 at the dealer. I think I can handle that every 5000 miles. The battery is warranted for 10 years. I presume that means Toyota thinks they can afford to replace any that fail during the warranty period. >>They are WAY overpriced in a market where ppl are trying to SAVE money. Why should I spend an extra $5000-$10,000 when I'm trying to save money on gas? That is a product of supply and demand that we can't do much about without radically changing our economic systems. But I got a pretty good deal by buying a 2004 model in the middle of the 2005 season. I'm very happy with my Prius and my once every other week gas habit. -------------- Ian Skinner Web Programmer BloodSource www.BloodSource.org Sacramento, CA "C code. C code run. Run code run.
