Well, from what I have read, the mileages that they ARE getting aren't
even close. I mean, WAY off. Wish I still had the article to back up
what I'm talking about, but it wasn't close. To be fair, the Prius has
been around the longest, and I seem to remember that Toyota had it
closer than anyone - but I am more interested in a truck or SUV, as I
generally just like them better.

I read similar articles when I was looking early this year. Hybrids MPG really
depend on how they are driven. To get the good gas mileage, one needs to be
slow on the start, long on the break and drive at consistent speeds. On my
trip down I-5 here in California last week, I kept at a constant 75mph as much
as I could, I got 45mpg in the valley and 54mpg going over the Grapevine. Lots
of downhill where I was using no gas!

Do you know your tech?

The dealership is new to me, but I wanted to try them out the first time with
the Prius. Next time I will probably just go back to my old guy who used to
take care of my Corolla.

I noticed that Toyota has a hybrid version of their small SUV, the Forrester I
think. I don't know how much trouble it was to put the new drive system into a
new model? But, at least they have lots of experience with the system.
