Back in the old days you were given a NIC handle and you could do lookups on
that NIC handle. It was pretty a pretty handy tool. Back then when all the
changes were done via the email forms those NIC handles made it real easy.

For instance mine was NM1635 I think. You could do a WHOIS on that and it
would return domains that had that handle listed as one of the contacts.

This was about 9-10 years ago, when they allowed the registrars to compete,
that changed everything.
