Oh that's right, the punishment is the deterrent. The possiblity of getting the gas chamber (and the electric chair, noose or firing squad before that) for murder has _always_ been such a deterrent as to render our country a blissful, murder-free zone. right? ten year minimum sentences reducing the amount of pot smokers or cocaine users?
