Natural selection would not neccessarily eliminate them.

If having homosexuals in a family group helped survival rates, then
that gene trend would tend to get passed on.

If having homosexuals in a family group hurt survival rates, then that
gene trend would tend to die out.

The fact that is has not died out, and is probably genetic in nature,
shows that it is either inconclusive or masked by societal factors,
useful, or has been too short a time to see any trend.
