For vehicles over 3 tons you can write off up to 25k, for vehicles under
3 tons the write off was 7k.

The deal was to help business that were using old equipment to upgrade,
getting better equipment. In general newer heavy equipment gets better
gas mileage and is safer than older heavy equipment.

Some SUVs just happened to fall into that category, but so did tractors,
pickup trucks, large vans and other things.

But throw in a take two parts car dealer, one part accountant, one part
status symbol, add a dash of credit and shake well. Pour into a
highball, and garnish with chrome.
